BATTERY LAMP DESIGN
AN INSIGHT INTO MY TIME AS A LIGHTING DESIGNER AND THE DESIGN OF A BATTERY LAMP
Over the past 2 years I have had the pleasure of working as a Lighting Designer for light.iQ, a world leading lighting design consultancy with extensive expertise in the luxury residential and commercial industries. In my time at light.iQ I was fortunate enough to work on projects all over the world such as a luxury beach resort in the Maldives, a Michelin star restaurant in Paris and several London based residences.
My passion for lighting design will no doubt stick with me throughout my career and is something that certainly drives many decisions during the industrial design process. Rather than lighting being a secondary thought in projects, it now sticks with me as a primary factor in the design process.
Given my background in design engineering and passion for lighting design, lighting product design naturally captures my interest. Presentations from manufacturers during my time as a lighting designer were always fascinating as it was a chance to disassemble products and decipher who had the best modularity, technology and overall quality.
Fortunately in my final months at light.iQ our design team was given the opportunity to collaborate with an Italian lighting manufacturer on a new battery lamp design to add to their range. Coincidentally, I had modelled a few battery lamp concepts using blender a few weeks prior so, I decided to share with the team the option pictured. We brainstormed the idea internally and made a few adjustments to the functionality but ended up following a very similar concept which we were all in agreement of. The design is now with manufacturer and will be further coordinated over the coming months.
